Reducing Our Environmental Impact
At Jamaica Press, we do not follow environmental trends lightly. We recognise our impact on the planet and are committed to reducing it. Living and working in North Devon is a privilege. We are surrounded by stunning countryside, moorland, beaches, and the sea. Yet, despite this natural beauty, research shows that human activity continues to harm the environment. That is why we focus on eco-friendly printing in North Devon, taking practical steps to reduce our footprint.
Since moving to our new premises in 2009, we have made many environmentally conscious decisions. We strive to reduce waste, recycle wherever possible, lower energy consumption, and cut harmful emissions. By implementing eco-friendly printing in North Devon, we aim to provide high-quality print while minimising our environmental impact. We also work closely with suppliers and customers to implement practical environmental initiatives. Our commitment is ongoing, and we share our progress here on our website and across social media. Feedback and suggestions from our community are always welcome.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a global non-profit organisation promoting responsible forest management. Founded in 1993, FSC certification helps businesses and consumers make informed decisions about wood, paper, and other forest products. The system includes Forest Management and Chain of Custody certification, ensuring products come from well-managed forests or recycled sources.
Most paper-based items from our distributors are FSC-certified. To our knowledge, all paper products we purchase meet FSC standards. Using FSC-approved materials supports sustainable printing and reinforces our commitment to eco-friendly printing in North Devon.
Our First CtP System: Agfa 660VL
After relocating, we installed computer-to-plate (CtP) equipment. This eliminated the need for traditional film, which required silver chemicals. We also chose litho printing plates that use less chemistry than standard plates. Our original equipment has served us for years, but as parts become harder to source, we are replacing it with more modern, sustainable solutions. We will recycle as many components as possible to reduce waste further, continuing our focus on eco-friendly printing in North Devon.
Our New CtP System: AGFA Accent II S
We are excited to introduce our new AGFA Accent II S CtP system. This advanced equipment brings faster plate production, greater accuracy, and lower chemical usage. The system is highly efficient, reducing energy consumption while maintaining exceptional print quality. It also supports a wider range of sustainable plate materials, further enhancing eco-friendly printing in North Devon.
The AGFA Accent II S allows us to deliver consistent, high-quality prints more quickly and reliably. By upgrading to this system, we further minimise waste, improve operational efficiency, and continue our commitment to sustainable, eco-friendly printing in North Devon.
Sustainable printing and environmentally responsible practices are not just goals—they are part of our ongoing journey. By combining FSC-certified paper, efficient equipment, and careful environmental management, we aim to reduce our impact while providing high-quality printing services across the region.
