Leaving less footprints

Jumping on the band wagon? No!

Recognising the effect we have on our environment and wanting to genuinely reduce that effect – Yes!

Living and working in North Devon is a huge privilege. All around us are stunning fields, trees, flowers, moorland, beaches and sea and it’s very easy to be lulled into thinking that everything in the environment is okay. However, from the information that research now provides, that’s not the case, and it’s right that we should all take steps to reduce the negative impact that the human race has on the planet.

Since we moved to our new premises in 2009, we’ve considered the environment in various decisions made within the business but now, it’s time to be accountable, to discuss what we’ve done and why, and to look deeper to see what more we can do.

Moving forward, we’ll explain how we seek to minimise waste, promote recycling, reduce energy consumption, reduce harmful emissions and work with suppliers and customers on practical environmental initiatives.  Our commitment to the environment is a continuous process and we will share our journey here and through our social media channels. We would value your thoughts and feedback.

Forest Stewardship Council

The Forest Stewardship Council was established in 1993 as an international non-profit, multistakeholder organization dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests.

It enables businesses and consumers to make informed choices about the forest products they buy, creating positive change by engaging the power of market dynamics.

The FSC runs a global forest certification system with two key components: Forest Management and Chain of Custody. It also licenses retailers and other end users to promote FSC labelled products, without holding FSC certification.

The system allows businesses and consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products made with materials from well-managed forests and/or recycled sources.

The vast majority of paper-based items available to us from distributors are FSC approved and to our knowledge, all paper-based items that we purchase are FSC approved.

Our First CtP System

When we moved premises, we were able to install computer-direct-to-plate equipment removing the need for traditional film where silver was required. We carefully chose litho printing plates suitable for processing equipment which had been converted to run with less chemistry than normal. This equipment has been used by us for as long as possible and is only now being replaced due to parts availability. As many parts as can be will be recycled.
